Trip to Weissensee

Yesterday I took a day off from studying (I'm in the middle of a hectic exam season) to go on a little trip with my family and our family friends. We went ice-skating to the Lake Weissensee, Austria. Weissensee lake is pretty huge. The surface of the lake is supposed to be the largest frozen and prepared natural ice surface in Europe. Right now, the ice layer is 40 cm thick!

The trip was quite nice. Around noon the sun was shining and it was just perfect, but in the afternoon, it became very cold. Even though I was dressed like a polar bear, I was freezing, and that's probably also the reason why I got sick. I got a fever, my head hurts really bad, I completely lost my voice, and my whole body hurts like hell (although this is probably due to the fact that I had been ice-skating for hours).

Anyway, enough about me being sick. While we were there, there was also a speed skating contest, held as a part of Alternative Dutch 11-City Race. They were skating for 50, 100 or 200 km. Isn't that just insane? How can a person skate 200 km?!

  2. wow the snow looks amazing, heaps jealous as we have no snow season here in australia =(
