Mean Stinks

Today's post is going to be a little bit different from my usual posts, because I'll be talking about bullying. I was asked to join the Mean Stinks Anti Bullying Campaign and decided to join straight away, without thinking. Bullying is a big problem in our society and being a victim myself, I really want to help raise awareness. I was bullied quite a lot during my elementary and high school years - I was spit on, had a trash can thrown on me, people called me names like 'fatty' and 'a whale', spread false rumours about me, ignored me... All of these things had a big influence on my self-image and confidence. I was feeling so depressed that I even considered transfering to another school in the middle of my junior year because I just couldn't take it anymore. After starting uni, the bullying thankfully stopped, but the past situations still affect me and my social life.

Sadly, bullying is becoming more and more present not only in schools, but also online, which can be just as bad. I luckily haven't received any hate comments yet here on my blog, but I know that some people get them on a daily basis, especially on youtube. I really hope that raising awareness and introducing anti-bullying policies will eventually solve this problem. People should cheer each other up, not bring each other down!

To show your support to the Blue Pinky Swear Against Bullying Campaign yourself, you can paint your pinky nail blue, take a photo of it, and spread the word about this issue. If you decide to write a blog post about this, please leave me a link in the comment section below so I can add it to the 'supporters' section that will be located at the bottom of this post.

And one more thing! I just want to say thank you to all of you who take your time and leave me nice comments. They really mean a lot to me. I've also decided to include a video that made me bawl my eyes out when I saw it. If you've gone through something similar, prepare yourself for lots of crying. Even Simon Cowell cried!

  4. Nearly went into the ugly cry thanks very much. Great message I totally understand where you're coming from because I've been in a similar situation. I seriously think that bullies do what they do because they are threatened and jealous, sending you a virtual hug.

    1. You have been warned, haha! :D
Yes, you're right. Bullies are very insecure and pathetic people that make themselves feel better by putting others down.
Sending you a virtual hug back! :)

  5. You brought tears to my eyes.
I feel you girl :*

  6. Oh, I'm so glad I haven't done my make up yet today!! That had me weeping.
I think most people have been bullied in some way or another, it really is awful and now I have Immy the thought of her being bullied makes me so angry. She's only 4 so hopefully will be ok for a few years yet but when she's older I will rip the head off any kid that ever hurts my baby girl!!
Well done for being brave enough to speak out about your experiences. I will paint my pinky blue for you later xxx

  8. Wow I didn't prepare myself for that video! Stuff like this really gets to me cos I had a little bit of a hard time when I was like 13-14, from some so-called friends. Lucky for me I have very supportive parents who changed my school as soon as they realised, but I didn't even realise it was bullying, I thought I deserved it. I'm sorry to hear you've been through it, it sounds like you've had a horrible time of it, I don't see why, you seem a lovely person and you're so pretty. Lots of love xxx

  9. Well done sweeety and I am so sorry you got bullied.
Bullies are just people who need help and I feel very strongly about this issue, I have been reading so much about this issue even in the blogging community.
A blogger from Greece stopped blogging because she was been bullied and called so many names on her own blog and youtube channel.
We should all stop this issue and spread the words.
    Have a great week dear.

    Bom pregledala to kampanjo, hvala!

  14. I think pretty much everyone, at one point or another, has had to deal with this kind of problem, but of course, some cases are worse. If stuff like the things you describe in your post happened to you in middle school or high school, it doesn't just go away as time passes by. It defines you, it sticks with you but you learn to overcome it. Kids don't realize how the things they say, their words, can be so harmful.

Writing about this problems will always be a brave thing to do. Thank you for sharing your story and for staying strong!

Oh and watching this video at work was a TERRIBLE IDEA. I had to run to the bathroom hoping nobody noticed me crying my eyes out!
