VidCon 2013

As you'll see in the video, I totally failed at proper vlogging while I was at VidCon, so I thought I would write a blog post to share my thoughts about VidCon with you and then only show you a few highlights in the actual video.

For those of you that don't know what VidCon is, it's basically a gathering of people who make online videos and their fans, but more on that later. To be honest, I didn't expect VidCon to be what it turned out to be. I think there were way too many people (especially fangirls), everything was a bit too official and it was actually quite hard to meet and talk to people. There were too many things scheduled at the same time, and you had to wait in lines for hours, if you actually wanted to go meet someone. We were for example waiting in line to meet Sam Pepper, because my sister is a tad obsessed with him, and I really wanted him to say something into my camera for her, but we were waiting for two hours to get to him and then the 'signing' was over before we even got to him. Major fail. And don't even get me started about those signings. I think they're just ridiculous. A woman was standing there and telling people that they shouldn't take photos with the popular youtubers, and could only ask for autographs. Wait, what? I don't need or want autographs! I just wanted to meet people with common interests...

I didn't like how some youtubers were treated like celebrities and even acted as ones, which was really standoffish, because at the end of the day, most of them just film videos in their bedrooms. Like me and some of you. And the fangirls were totally ridiculous. They were running after their favorite youtubers, screaming their lungs out and just being obnoxious. I think they should make separate events for youtubers meeting each other and for popular youtubers meeting their crazy fans, haha.

But all the bad things aside, VidCon was still fun. After having a crappy first day, the night ended up to be pretty awesome. We got to chat to someone at VidCon and he invited us to a private hotel room party, which we sadly arrived too late to, because it was already stopped by security by the time we arrived there, but we did end up going to another, impromptu tour bus party. I know that I'll probably get a lot of people asking me who was at the party or who invited us, but I don't know if I should say. All I will say is, you can find the clue in my photo collage and if you watch his vlogs, you'll be able to put two and two together. Lol.

Moving on to the second day of vidcon, we basically missed half of it, because we came home very late the night before and slept through the morning, but what was left of it was pretty awesome. We got to meet a lot of cool people we watch that day and actually had proper conversations with some of them, which was really nice. Most youtubers, even 'the big ones', were actually very cool and normal.

I think this post si getting a bit long, so I'll wrap it up and invite you to watch some of the random footage I took below. If you have any questions regarding anything that has to do with VidCon, please leave them in the comments below and I'll make sure to reply as soon as possible. :)

  1. Heh...

I'd have fallen into the fan girl category, I know I would, but only for Dan and Phil I think, it's a shame that it didn't turn out quite the way you wanted, I think Playlist Live is less like this, but I'm off to Summer in the City next weekend and I'm hoping it's a bit different!

  14. I totally understand your point about the youtubers being treated as celebrities!
    I just think it's RIDICULOUS!
I'm not going to name them, but a lot of "big" youtubers are now acting like they're superstars and it upsets me a lot... I'm kind of getting sick of youtube at the moment. It's changed a lot and not for the better I think...
