I’m a sucker for unique experiences, so it was only a matter of time before I headed over to Kranjska Gora for a special meal at Jasna Chalet Resort’s instagrammable Alpine Bubbles. My sister and her boyfriend visiting from the Netherlands was just the right excuse I needed to drag my whole family along!

Lake Jasna has one of the best mountain views in the country, and being able to have lunch “outside” even during the winter, taking it all in, is just dreamy.

There’s four bubbles/igloos in total, each being able to host up to eight people. Since there was seven of us we had all to our own, otherwise there’s two tables of four. A reservation can be made online (I hate calling, so I really appreciate the option), upon which you also have to select what 4-course meal you’re going to have. You can choose between a vegetarian (€28), fish (€32), meat (€33) and kids’ menu (€14).

I opted for the meat menu, which came with a glass of bubbly, the kitchen’s greetings’ excellent liver pate and proper mushroom soup as a starter. The main was served on sharing platters and included beef tagliata, the traditional cottage cheese štruklji, turkey rolls and roasted baby potatoes with a side salad. At the end, we also got platter of desserts, from different types of strudels to an Emperor’s Mess and kremšnita (Bled Cream Cake) to share. You can check out the other menus here

While this was no grande cuisine, everything was tasty apart from the beef, which all of us found way too chewy. I would say don’t go there just for the food, but for an overall experience. Also bear in mind the reservation gives you an hour and a half long slot, so you can’t hang out in there for hours, but it’s more than enough time for you to slowly enjoy the meal.

If you’re staying in the area for longer and looking for another meal or even a stay with a glorious mountain view, check out Triangel Boutique Hotel.
