Having completely missed the colorful displays of the last two autumns (thanks, terrible weather and the lockdown), I wasn’t going to let my autumnal photo escape get away once more. The second I saw a few sunny days on the horizon, I packed my bags and headed to one of the most picturesque places in Slovenia — Kranjska Gora. I chose to stay at the new Triangel Boutique Hotel in the nearby Gozd Martuljek. When it comes to accommodations, I’m always drawn to contemporary but cozy interiors and amazing balcony views, and let me tell you, this 4-star hotel definitely ticks both of these boxes.

I booked this double room overlooking the majestic Mount Špik and it most certainly didn’t disappoint. Waking up to an unobstructed view of the Martuljek Mountain Range was an absolute dream! The interior design is right up my alley too. Mountain chic with the comfiest bed, modern black faucets, a pop of (mustard!!) color… you get the idea! Whoever designed the room definitely speaks my language. And as as freelancer who had to spent many a day working from hotel beds, I appreciate the addition of a study desk too. Also important: wi-fi and parking are free of charge.
An unexpected star of the show for me was the hotel restaurant. Elevated dishes with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients without a hefty price tag. Just the way I like it! I normally avoid eating dinner at hotel restaurants, but the first night’s dinner impressed me so much I ended up eating there both days! The service was great and the food is made at an open-concept kitchen, right in front of your hungry eyes. Also, being able to just walk upstairs and roll into your bed when your stomach is overflowing with goodness is quite an added bonus, isn’t it?!
While dinner isn’t included in your stay, equally delicious breakfasts are. If a 3-tiered spread of pastry, sweet spreads as well as cheese and cold meats isn’t enough for you, they’ll also make you American-style pancakes, an omelette, fried eggs… All tried and tested and all delicious!
One thing I didn’t get to try out is the sauna, which is also complimentary, but I guess this just gives me another excuse to come back in winter. And then in the summertime too, so I can enjoy the breakfast on the outside terrace with that 5-star view. Having stayed at a number of hotels in the area over the years, this one has been by far the best one yet, so you can be sure it wasn’t just a one-time visit.
